Behind the voice of Siri

At the end of July, I released Episode 4: How the Blind Email, Tweet, and Blog (or "Yes, That's Really Me on Facebook!”) of my Blind Life YouTube series. It was my response to all the questions about how those with vision loss use technology.Yes, I use my iPhone every day, and without it, I’d be bored, disconnected, and lost. The hubs had showed me this video a long time ago about how Siri’s voice was created, and it’s so weird to hear “Siri” speak about anything other than telling me my message is sent, my reminder is set, or that she is searching the web for “‘House of Cards’ plot synopsis.”It’s an interesting 10-minute video chronicling the birth of Siri. For me, it was kind of surreal to be watching the woman behind Siri’s voice and also have Siri on my phone reading to me the video control buttons at the same time.I bet Susan Bennett had no idea two decades ago that she’d be talking to millions of cell phone users worldwide. Just like I never thought five years ago that I’d be where I am today. Life is a roller coaster.I think my mind would be mildly blown if I ever met her in person. It would be like when I met Alex Trebek at the HKAA in June and found it bizarre he was saying my name and making conversation rather than reading aloud trivial facts. What do you think about how Siri was created? Do you rely on Siri often? Or does she frustrate you to no end with her apologies and inabilities to assist you?
