Tasting menus at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London

When Gordon Ramsay heard I’d be visiting his stomping grounds on summer holiday, he invited the hubs and me to dine at his flagship restaurant, the very same one where he made his name and earned his Michelin stars. The dining room was cozy, and, I was told, decorated in a formal ‘90s dated kind of way. I most appreciated the little stool at our table on which I could set my handbag—it’s a small detail that makes a large impression. We started with some bubbly and then quickly launched into the tasting menu. There are two tasting menus: one consists of more modern, seasonal dishes reflecting the flair and talent of Chef d’cuisine Claire Smith, and the second showcases Gordon Ramsay’s traditional cuisine by which he rose to acclaimed chef status. The hubs ordered the traditional tasting, while I went for the modern menu. Obviously we’ll be forking off each other’s plates.Restaurant Gordon Ramsay steak tartareSome of the most notable dishes included the steak tartare with nasturtiums (my first time eating this plant—divinely interesting) and Manni olive oil (from the modern menu); lobster and langoustine ravioli and salmon poached in bisque and oxalis (traditional); and pigeon with fennel, foie gras, lavender, honey, and cherry (traditional). There was also a for gras butter we kept by our plates the entire evening for random dips with bread.Restaurant Gordon Ramsay pigeonThe dinner was gluttonously memorable, and the service was, of course, impeccable. I can’t tell you the cost of a tasting menu because Gordon graciously picked up the tab. We left with a menu signed by the staff as a souvenir—a perfect addition to my collection of memorable menus. Thanks, Chef Ramsay and Smith, for the lovely evening!Christine & John with Chef Claire Smith at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, LondonRestaurant Gordon RamsayRoyal Hospital Road 68London SW3 4HPEnglandPhone: +44 0207 352 4441
