Whiskey tastings at the Old Jameson Distillery in Dublin

Jameson is my favorite go-to whiskey. It’s smooth, sweet, and consistent. I like mine on a rock—that is, I like mine served with just one ice cube. It’s enough to mellow the whiskey out even more, but not enough to water it down. The hubs is a big Jameson fan, too. It was his call to stock the bar at our wedding with Jameson. My father gave him a bottle of 18-year-old Jameson for Christmas one year. We drank it lovingly. So of course, when in Dublin, we had to stop by the Old Jameson Distillery. The historical distillery opened for business in 1780 and was the original site for distilling the world-famous Irish whiskey. It stopped distilling here in 1971 and turned into a visitor’s center in 1997.We stopped in for a tasting, but really, it was only the guys that sampled. We ladies were saving our livers for the inevitable pub crawl to come later, as it was our last day on our summer holiday. The Old Jameson Distillery is not as showy as the Guinness Storehouse—on a more modest scale, it’s still a worthwhile attraction for the whiskey devotee. I even bought my pops a Jameson hat.If you love Jameson, or even whiskey, you’ve got to pay homage.Old Jameson DistilleryBow St.Smithfield, DublinIrelandPhone: +11 3531 807 2355
