Hurricane Harvey relief: How you can help
Once the Houston roads began clearing by Tuesday morning, the hubs and I drove through the relentless rain collecting donations from neighbors and friends to deliver them to local shelters. We even live-streamed the collection and drop-off on my Facebook. I fortuitously discovered a “donate” link you could add to your Facebook Live video, so I included it in the post, linking it to the Houston Food Bank, which happens to the the largest food bank in America feeding the nation’s fourth largest city. I’m proud to say as I type this, since the video posted yesterday, I’ve been able to raise over $2,500 for the Houston Food Bank! Thanks to everyone who donated here and elsewhere!The George R. Brown convention center in Houston is at capacity with 9,000 displaced Houstonians, so we ended up dropping our collective donations at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in north central Houston. Volunteers have mobilized all over Houston to sort and distribute donated goods, and we’ve learned the most needed items are socks, towels, bedding and pillows, larger men’s clothing, baby diapers, children’s toys, medical supplies, and food.Thank you for continuing to keep Houston in your thoughts and prayers.
