My menu for the Crazy Rich Asians VIP soirée in Austin on August 4th, presented by Austin Asian American Film Festival

I was invited to design the Singaporean-inspired menu for the VIP reception and fundraiser hosted by the Austin Asian American Film Festival to be held on August 4th at the Long Center in Austin, Texas. The mission of the AAAFF is to help advance Asian and Asian-American representation in the media arts, specifically through the genre of film. In anticipation of the upcoming release of the Crazy Rich Asians film, based on Kevin Kwan’s novel by the same name, the AAAFF is hosting the largest Crazy Rich Asians activation event in the country with co-presenters, Warner Bros. and Alamo Drafthouse. You can taste my curated menu of five Singaporean-style hors d’oeuvres at the VIP soirée and fundraiser, which is a private event; tickets are going fast, so go to this page to purchase your VIP tickets.Other celebs who will be in attendance at the VIP soirée include “Project Runway” winner Chloe Dao and cast members from the film, the hilarious Ronny Chiang (known for his role as correspondent on “The Daily Show”) and Chris Pang. Chloe will be showcasing her evening wear collection, while Ronny and Chris will take part in a panel discussing Asian and Asian-American representation in the arts.Without further adieu, here is my menu for the reception.

Kaya Toast | 81° coconut custard, masago
White Carrot Cake (V) | Daikon, scallion, shiso

Sambal Chile Crab Crostini | Belacan, tamarind, won ton crisp

Chicken Rice | Ginger, pandan, cucumber relish

Beef Curry Puff | Potato, green chile, coriander

Thanks to The Peached Tortilla for helping me execute this menu. I’m super excited to party like a crazy rich Asian! And if you’re not feeling crazy rich, you can still come out with your entire family and enjoy the FREE Night Market and Luxury Experience. There will be food vendors, a cash bar, and book signings.Hope to see you in Austin!
