Fancy Dominican fare at Don Pepe in Santo Domingo
I was on a gastronomical whirlwind during my stay in Santo Domingo. A quick lunch at Don Pepe was on the agenda, but the Dominicans, I’ve learned, like to linger. This is a place you take a client you want to impress or where you go for a tryst.Per the usual, we had to stones, or fried plantains, followed by king crab cooked with Creole spices (thanks to the European diaspora to the Caribbean). Dessert was smashed corn pudding spiked with cinnamon—what the Dominicans call majarete—a comforting denouement to a fine meal.Don PepeCalle Porfirio Herrera 31Santo Domingo, Dominican RepublicPhone: +1 809 563-4440
