Travel to London: Borough Market, Harrod's and Hyde Park

The weather was gorgeous: sunny but mild (to us Houstonians, at least—the headlines in London that day claimed the worst heatwave in a decade). We headed for Borough Market, the food stall mecca of London, but unfortunately, the market mostly thrives from Thursday to Saturday, and today was Monday. Most stalls were closed, but I managed to try a Scotch egg and an Indian dosa.In my travels, eating is followed by more eating. We made our way to Harrod’s and eyed all the things way out of our league and budget. We did, however, splurge on a few slices of Iberico ham and Spanish Wagyu—I was especially excited about the ham since I was reading Dan Barber’s The Third Plate at the time, and there are chapters devoted to the jamón de Iberico. The pigs roam the land and mostly eat acorns, which contribute to their distinct meat.Since it was a lovely day, we toted our charcuterie to Hyde Park and enjoyed a mini-picnic by the pond. Be aware that the adirondack chairs cost a couple of pounds per hour: you sit, you pay. That evening, we dined at Dinner by Heston at the Mandarin Oriental, the famous Michelin-rated chef behind The Fat Duck. This was our favorite meal in London, but unfortunately, we have no video footage of it—we tried to keep it classy, you see, and also stay present in the moment. Don’t worry—I’ll show you pictures and talk about the meal in the next post.Happy watching!
