Scotch whisky tastings at Glenfiddich and Highlander Inn in Dufftown
Because we got straight-up REJECTED at Balvenie, we visited Glenfiddich instead. The Glenfiddich distillery was a much larger operation, offering tours on a walk-in basis.A tour guide, complete with a kilt, gave us a tour of the 130-year-old family operation. I learned that glenfiddich means "valley of the deer," hence Glenfiddich's label. At the endof the tour, of course there was a tasting. The visit to Glenfiddich was totally worth it, but they say once you tour one distillery, they're all kind of the same, so unless you're a Speyside Scotch fanatic, this one will teach you what you need to know as a casual whisky imbiber.GlenfiddichDufftown AB55 4DHScotlandPhone: +44 134 082-0973That evening after dinner, per the advice of many, we checked out Highlander Inn whose bar is run by a Japanese man who stocks the shelf with whiskeys from all over the world. Each of us got a flight, which came with six tastings each, so that meant each of us tried twenty-four different whiskeys. To say our palates (not to mention brains) were dead by the end of the night is an understatement.Highlander Inn is definitely a cozy little place perfect for enjoying a whiskey (or twenty-four). It’s quiet and friendly and non-assuming. Just remember to drink responsibly.Highlander Inn10 Victoria St.Craigellachie AB38 9SRScotlandPhone: +44 134 088-1446
