Travel to Danang: Vietnamese street food tour
For a quick getaway, the hubs, BIL, and I took a weekend trip to Danang, a relaxing beach town in the central region of Vietnam, where the streets are less crowded, the air breezier—a welcomed change to the sticky, saturated streets of Saigon. We hit up the beach in the morning, located right across the street from our hotel. Because most Vietnamese people prefer to be out of the sun (fairer skin indicates higher social status, as in you’re wealthy enough to not farm the fields yourself), we pretty much had the stretch of beach to ourselves. The three of us lounged on adirondacks underneath an umbrella, sipping local beers and fresh coconut juice. Then we got hungry.I picked a winner for the Danang portion of my food guide contest, too: Lena T., who got permission from her boss to skip work and show me around Danang. (Thanks, Lena’s boss!) Lena was young, enthusiastic, and an awesome food guide. Instead of stuffing us silly with food for hours on end, she peppered our tour with historical trivia, folklore, and visits to famous Danang sites. They were a nice balance and kept our palates fresh. Lena even booked us motorbikes, and we felt more like locals zipping around town eating, drinking, and taking in the awesome ocean air.Lena was a fantastic food guide—she took us to eat the best Vietnamese sizzling crêpes, an outdoor live seafood bar, and a snack shop where I had green mango salad for the first time. Check out the awesome things we did in Danang in the video above.
