Travel to Saigon: My first time trying dau hu da, refreshing iced tofu drink

YouTuber Kyle Le was the official winner of my Saigon food guide contest, but I couldn’t resist reaching out to another couple who had submitted an entry video. Pinky and Chuck (their self-selected English names) are a young, vibrant couple, and the hubs, the BIL, and I spent an afternoon snacking around HCMC with them.Pinky and Chuck took us to eat banh xeo (turmeric and coconut crêpe typically stuffed with pork, shrimp, and bean sprouts), goi con (summer rolls), and a snack shop serving small bites often frequented by students. (That’s how young Pinky and Chuck were.)Perhaps, though, the most memorable thing I tried that day was dau hu da, which translates as “iced tofu.” We bought them off a woman on a sidewalk, and the tall glass contained ice, soy milk, condensed milk, maybe some sugar, and of course, silken, soft tofu. It was the perfect refreshment to end a hot and humid day in HCMC. I brought some home to my family whom—surprise!—had never had dau hu da before either despite living in Saigon.I don’t recall ever coming across this drink in the U.S. Does anyone know where I can find it? I love discovering new things—that’s the lure of travel for me.
